About Danielle Boisvert
I am a Criminal Defence Lawyer and Managing Partner at Savage Oykhman Law, Edmonton Branch. Savage Oykhman Law is a Full Service Criminal Defence Law Office, with central offices in Edmonton, Calgary, Toronto, and Victoria.
Client Centered Philosophy
Having been born and raised in Edmonton, I have strong roots in this city and province, and feel privileged to be able to serve my community. My philosophy is to empower my clients to make informed decisions about their matters by providing objective research-based legal opinions. To that end, I stay on top of the latest developments and trends in the criminal field of practice by:
- Reviewing the latest and most relevant court decisions,
- Organizing and attending criminal law seminars and conferences,
- Presenting on topics at criminal law seminars organized by the Criminal Trial Lawyers Association, and
- Keeping informed of developments to the Criminal Code and related statutes.
This, of course, is in addition to mentoring and supervising our legal team, and consulting with our legal partners across the country.
Community Involvement and Outreach
Currently I sit on the executive board for the Criminal Trial Lawyers Association in Edmonton, Alberta. This role allows me to advocate for all accused persons and defence lawyers throughout Alberta on various issues involving all stakeholders in the criminal justice system. I attend regular meetings with stakeholders at the Provincial Court and Court of Queen’s Bench as a voice for the criminal defence bar in northern Alberta.
In the past year I have become a regular guest on CTV’s Alberta Primetime, Crime Panel and provided commentary on high profile cases to various media outlets. These are excellent opportunities to educate the public about criminal law in general, about their rights, and to raise awareness of political or systemic issues affecting an accused’s due process in law.
Education, Awards, and Career Path
I obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with distinction from the University of Alberta in 2000. After a few years working in the private sector, I went to law school knowing that I wanted to be a criminal defence lawyer. I attended Queen’s University Law School as they offered many courses in criminal law and supervised the Queen’s Legal Aid clinic, which offers legal services to low-income residents. I volunteered and worked for Queen’s Legal Aid in all three years of law school, obtaining the Robinson-Ryan Award for service in my final year of law school in 2007.
After articling to Mr. Brian Beresh and other excellent mentors in 2007-2008, then becoming licensed to practice law in Alberta in 2008, I have represented clients in all three levels of court in Alberta. I have also represented clients in Saskatchewan and Ontario at the provincial court level. In 2017, I decided to strike out on my own by opening the Savage Oykhman Trial Lawyers branch office in Edmonton.
What I can do to Help
While I continue to represent all types of clients and all criminal charges, my practice has recently focused on representing individuals charged with serious offences such as impaired driving causing bodily harm/death, sexual assault offences, and internet-based offences.
If you have been charged with a criminal offence, contact me for a Free Consultation and give me the opportunity to explain what I can do to help.
