About Elizabeth Weisenburger
I am a Criminal Defence Lawyer and Managing Partner of OCD Law, Victoria Branch. OCD Law is a Full Service Criminal Defence Law Office, with central offices in Victoria, Toronto, Calgary and Edmonton. Since 2015, I have worked exclusively in criminal law, honing my skills with a team of highly skilled and experienced criminal defence lawyers in Calgary, Alberta. I have personally successfully defended hundreds of cases, and have assisted other members of our team on countless more, from mischief to murder. While in Calgary, I remained actively involved with the University of Calgary Faculty of Law. I assisted in the creation of the Criminal Justice Clinical Course, which provides advocacy for individuals incarcerated at Alberta Penitentiaries. I continued to contribute to this clinical program as a regular guest lecturer, and as an advising lawyer overseeing student work on files, until my departure to Victoria. I was also an active member of Student Legal Assistance (SLA), a non-profit poverty law clinic at the University of Calgary, committed to access to justice in the Calgary area. I was highly engaged with SLA throughout my studies, and gave back to the organization as a volunteer lawyer at evening clinics.
As a Victoria native, I wanted to return home and help the people in the community where I grew up, so our Firm opened a main branch right in the heart of Victoria, BC. There is no case to small, or too complex for myself and our broader team. One of the biggest advantages of our services is that you don’t just get my help; you get the collective assistance and experience of our entire organization behind me. At every step of the process, we look for opportunities to add value to our clients through strategic thinking and creating solutions.
Knowing the law is important, but it’s only one part of the process. At OCD Law, we know how difficult and stressful being charged with a criminal offence can be. We pride ourselves on not only securing the right result, but giving our clients piece of mind along the way. Our team approach to legal representation is client-rather than only law-centered. I work hard to be accessible to clients, whether by phone, email, or text message. Even if I am not available, someone from our team always is, and can provide immediate legal assistance in urgent circumstances.
We work hard to get to know our clients so we can better advocate for them. It is important that I get to know your background, your family situation, your employment status, etc. The more we know, the more effectively we can represent your interests to the police, the prosecutor and the judge. In turn, I’d like you to get to know me so you are comfortable and confident with the representation you receive. I already shared many of my legal strengths, but here is a bit more about my background. I received my Bachelor of Law from the University of Calgary in 2015 with the following distinctions:
- Dean’s List Standing
- Cecilia Johnston Equality Award
- Gary J Bigg Memorial Award in Advocacy
- Represented the University of Toronto at the Gale Cup Moot Competition
Prior to studying law, I graduated from the University of Victoria with distinction, and received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, with a minor in Film Studies. I subsequently received a Master of Arts in Political Science from McMaster University, where I maintained a 4.0 grade point average throughout my term of study. In my spare time (which is often scarce), I train in aerial acrobatics.
Among my many traits, I am empathetic, driven, and passionate about advocating on behalf of my clients facing criminal charges. If you have been charged with a criminal offence, contact me for a Free Consultation and give me the opportunity to explain what I can do to help.
