About Lauren White
I am a student-at-law with Savage Oykhman Trial Lawyers, Edmonton Office. I graduated from the University of Alberta Law School in 2018, specializing in criminal law and having the honour of receiving the Brian E. Peterson QC Prize in Advocacy (For highest standing in the course “Advocacy”).
Prior to law school, I obtained my Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Social Work degrees from McMaster University. After that, I worked in the social work field for three years, maintaining employment with the Canadian Mental Health Association and John Howard Society. During these three years, I continued to seek out opportunities to expand my knowledge of the criminal justice system, including volunteering with the RCMP Victim Services and obtaining my Adult Probation Officer certification through the Justice Institute of British Columbia. Through these experiences, I realized my passion for criminal law would only be fully satisfied by pursuing a career as a lawyer.
During law school, I was extensively involved with Student Legal Services’ Criminal Law Project as a volunteer in my first year, subsequent summer worker, and day leader (supervisor) of student volunteers in my second year.
After my second year, I accepted a summer student position with the Alberta Crown Prosecution Service so I could develop a broader perspective on criminal law and a better understanding of the roles of various participants within the criminal justice system. I believe my experience working in the Crown Prosecutors’ office will serve to better inform and enhance my practice as a criminal defence lawyer.
Beyond my excitement to be starting my career in criminal defence law, I am deeply grateful to be a part of this highly esteemed and accomplished firm. Throughout my career, I’ve enjoyed helping people, and look forward to the opportunity to do so in my new capacity as a Student-at-Law.
